Our S.C.A. started this year off with a food collection at Thanksgiving. Each class collected food, and it was donated to Sheltering Arms
Hospital. Along with this was a contest to see who could raise the
most food, and the Junior class won this. At Christmas the S.C.A.
sponsored a best decorated room and door contest. Most of the
classes worked hard, but the Sophomore class was awarded “Best
Door,” and the Eighth grade received “Best Room.” Just before
Christmas the S.C.A. sponsored a dance. It was a lot of fun! For the
first time we had music by “Astro Disco” who was a professional
disc-jockey. We held another food collection at this time and donated
it to the Henrico Christmas Mother.
Later in the spring the S.C.A. helped the cheerleaders hold the
Homecoming. Dance. Our first dance was postponed because of
heavy snow-fall, but we later had it at Glen Dale. Just before summer
vacation the Junior Olympics were held. Such contests as egg toss,
balloon races, coordination races, three leg races and a tug-’o-war
were enjoyed. The Seniors won the overall Junior Olympics. To finish
off the year we awarded the Junior class as "Class of the Year.” This
is a great honor because it means that your class worked harder
than any other. The S.C.A. felt they wanted to help the school
through the gym fund so they made a donation of $360.
The officers were: Betty Bates — President, Sheila Gregory —
Vice-President, Debbie Crenshaw — Secretary and Clay Hamner —
Treasurer. The representatives were Kim Hayes, Terry Lipscomb,
Dee Black, Todd Pleasants, Janet Allen, Steve Stephens, Melissa
Lennon, Colleen Foster, Deubre Ford, and Julie Jones.

Sophomore Class
The class of '81 has been receiving
new students. This year we received
two new students named Becky Jack-
son and Ken Shipman. They were two
nice people to have had around and
the class enjoyed them. This past year
we had had many projects to raise
money for the prom. We held bake
sales and sold candied apples during
lunch time at school. We also had
pony rides at the Horse Show. At the
bonfire the SCA sponsored, our class
showed the most spirit and we showed
even more at the pep rallies.

The Fourth Grade has done many exciting things
this year. We began by experiencing the colorful
Richmond Ballet at the Mosque. At Christmas we
joined forces with the third grade and prepared a
Cantata of Seasonal Music which we presented to
the ladies at the Confederate Home and to the par-

ents. We have viewed two plays at the McVey Thea-
tre — “Frostie” and "Little Red Riding Hood.” In
conjunction with our study of Virginia History we
wrote and presented a play entitled "A Boy and His
Dream.” It centered around Sir Walter Raleigh and
his lost colony.

The third grade went to the Ballet at the Mosque and
had a great time. Also, they teamed up with the fourth
grade and put on a play at Christmas.
In history they studied Indians and especially the
Chickahominy Indians! One Indian came to speak to
the class.

The Second Grade class has had a very
exciting year! We have taken interesting
and informative trips. Our favorite was to
the circus. The class also enjoyed May-
mount Park and the Virginia Museum. The
highlight of the year was performing “John-
ney Appleseed." The class worked hard to
make that production a success. The class
also worked diligently in music every week
with Mrs. Washington. All in all we had a
great year.

Mrs. Gay found many different ways
for her first graders to escape the
“tough life" at school.
The youngsters visited Santa Claus
at Miller & Rhodes, Brer Rabbit and
the Pop Shoppe on Midlothian Turn-
pike. For entertainment the class went
to a presentation of the Richmond Bal-
let at the Mosque and saw McVey The-
atre showings of Frosty the Snowman
and Little Red Riding Hood.
What a year! On to second grade!
