How deep is depth and how far does a thought reach into Inner Space? Why is sorrow so sad and joy so ecstatically happy? What makes warmth feel good and cold feel so desperately lonely and empty? From what type of tree did they make the door that separates Life from Death? Where does man end and the earth begin? What defines an object, if objectivity exists at all? And what is love? You tell me that fire is the result of chemical combustion and that depth is the distance from Up There to Down Here, but what defines those? Perhaps I’ll never know...... but then again, what is “knowing?” Walton. So calm, so quiet, so content. I heard the wind whisper your name in a thousand different tongues as it passed thru the bare autumn trees and ruffled you lemongold hair. I saw you move alone, unheeded and free down the sidewalk, your footfalls silent against the cold avenues of gray, clad in wool butterscotch-plaid jacket warmth, protection from something that could never hurt you anyway. I felt your gaze sweep upward into the heavens to touch clouds. soaring with the swallow, their lonely cries echoing southward, the space of air always between them No one could ever guess at the worlds swimming inside your eyes. What is it that mocks the cry of life, the heartbreak, the sorrow, and twists it into a laugh more firvolously, more painlessly, than you, Carnival Clown? With mirth your loom and the sun your brush you thread our weeping sighs thru your magic calliope and paint our faces yellow.
