Yearbook Dedicated to John Morris
As a teacher
As a friend
As a positive person
He had the most to give.
Mr. Morris has been here 10 years. Dur-
ing this lime he has sponsored math tourna-
ments, been an enthusiastic sports fan,
(Remember his checkered hat) chairman of
the mathematics department, a track and
football coach (Remember those Friday
afternoons, you didn't speak to him!)
For these reasons, this book is dedicated
to JOHN MORRIS.

In the win-loss column, Harrison did not do so well. Many of
the varsity were Sophomores which will help Harrison in the fu-
ture. The guys deserve a lot of credit for sticking it out through the
season. Many of the games were lost by only a few points. With
the upcoming freshmen, the team promises to improve in the next
few years.

Even though our season was 3-5, the pros-
pects for the future are bright. Many teams
we played, played Juniors and Sophomores
and we only played Sophomores. This
proved to be an asset to us as we had good
stiff competition. These are a fine bunch of
boys that will be a great asset to Harrison.

Taking two first places in the Cheyenne and Palmer Inv., the Cross Country team had a very successful season.
Throughout the season they paced toward victory and came very close to it many times. Despite the loss of all but two
reluming lettermen from last year, the team showed much improvement. The team will graduate only 2 Seniors.

be able to really improve in the years
to come.

Senior Dave Hollon reaches high to rebound a shot.
Pacing a 10-4 league record, the Harrison Pan-
thers earned a second place in W.R.L. Basketball.
They were only 4 games behind defending cham-
pions Widefield. The Panthers were led by senior,
Dave Hollon, who placed first in league scoring.
Coach Paul Martin is looking for another success-
ful season with the underclassmen returning next
year.
Danny Hansen prepares to shoot.
J.V. Divides Season
The junior varsity basketball team showed some out-
standing performances this season. Led by Coach Joe
Ross and Coach Gary Montell, they ended the season
with 9-9 record and ended this year’s league competition
with an 7-7 record. Comprised mainly of sophomores,
they will make up the bulk of our varsity in the next two
years.

again this year. Led by Coach Lew Ward, they finished the season with an im-
pressive 12-3 record. In league competition, they had a perfect season of 7-0.
Their only losses came to Pueblo Centennial, Fruita, and Pueblo Central. The
Harrison Panthers took a second place in Districts, only two points behind
first place Wasson. They sent five boys to the State Tournament.

Ending the league season with a 5-2

The teams this year were more consistent. All the teams were evenly
matched all around. The team this year was a little above average in the
dual meets. It was a very strong tournament team taking first in the
league meet two out of three years and second the other. This was the
last year for a freshman wrestling team at Harrison but the wrestlers
this year should contribute greatly for the Junior Varsity and Varsity
in the years to come.

With eight returning lettermen, the Harrison Panthers had
their best season ever. They finished the season with a 5-6 record.
In league competition they had a record of 3-1, blemished only
by a loss to Air Academy. At the WRL Conference Swim Meet,
they again placed second behind champions Air Academy. Again
without a pool, they showed outstanding performances and team
effort under Coach Dick Milward and Coach Chris Tausan. With
strong underclassmen coming back next year, the swimmers
look forward to another successful year.

The 1971 Baseball team will have to defend its W.R.L. Crown for
the second straight time. Last year’s team posted a season record and

went to the state playoffs, bowing to state champions Lakewood.
Consisting of juniors and seniors, the team is a powerful one.

This year’s track season will be a crucial
one. Suffering from the absence of Seniors,
the team will be depending largely on Juniors
and Sophomores. Being without a track also
poses some problems. The success of this
season rests heavily on the underclassmen.
However, having a young team secures a strong
future for track.

I ntergalactic Pondering
What is it, I wonder, that makes
a fire burn,
or a pain hurt,
or a circle round?
How deep is depth
and how far does a thought reach
into Inner Space?
Why is sorrow so sad
and joy so ecstatically happy?
What makes warmth feel good
and cold
feel so desperately
lonely and empty?
From what type of tree
did they make the door
that separates Life
from Death?
Where does man end
and the earth begin?
What defines an object,
if objectivity exists
at all?
And what is love?
You tell me that fire
is the result of
chemical combustion
and that depth is the distance
from Up There to
Down Here,
but what defines those?
Perhaps I’ll never know......
but then again,
what is “knowing?”

WAITING FOR THE BUS
I saw you standing there in the
late-aftcrnoon sunlight.
So calm, so quiet, so content.
I heard the wind whisper your name
in a thousand different tongues
as it passed thru the bare autumn trees
and ruffled you lemongold hair.
I saw you move alone, unheeded and free
down the sidewalk, your footfalls
silent against the cold avenues of gray,
clad in wool butterscotch-plaid jacket warmth,
protection from something that could
never hurt you anyway.
I felt your gaze sweep upward
into the heavens to touch clouds.
soaring with the swallow,
their lonely cries echoing southward,
the space of air always between them
No one could ever guess at the worlds
swimming inside your eyes.
No one could ever know what
hand your soul rests within
while you appear to fit the Glove
so snugly
No.
No one will ever know.
Least of all me.

Tears fall. They splash onto
your distorted funny-mirror reflection,
evaporate instants into rainbow-gold
sizzle-comedy.
What is it that mocks the cry of life,
the heartbreak, the sorrow, and twists it
into a laugh more firvolously, more
painlessly, than you, Carnival Clown?
With mirth your loom and the sun your brush
you thread our weeping sighs thru your magic calliope
and paint our faces yellow. Teasing emotion
upon you xylophone playtoy, you strike any chord
that grabs your whimsy.
Forever playing endless summer afternoon-
ice cream truck & hayride tunes of joy.
Always laughing. Always bringing cheer.
Able to sprinkle salt upon the tail of your
snowbird, make it dance in ecstatic circles
and fly madly to the sun to melt in
frenzied delerium.
You must know the secret of life, Carnival Clown.
You, you must surely know The Secret.
But still I can't help but wonder
what I will find on the Other Side
of your funny-mirror
when the merry-go-round has died and all the crowds
have gone home.
Yes tell me, Carnival Clown,
What will I find then?
