The Americanization of Carmen
BEFORE AFTER
Miss Carmen Amendola-Massiotti came to us on August 29,1966
and during a year's short time, enabled BHS to become ac-
quainted with the sweetest and friendliest South American yet.
Our thanks to you, Carmen, for enriching a little part of every-
one’s life. Hasta la vista.
During the year, Carmen set up a display for Boone High students to learn more about her country.
24
Mr. Bernard Morgen spoke to us on
"The World Image of the United
States ”
Ida Jo Cleveland presented an inter-
esting talk about her year in New
Zealand.
Mr. Ferguson seems interested in what Tesfaye has to say.
BHS students became acquainted with the AFS students at an informal buzz session.

1966 Homecoming
was a big success. The homecoming
events began with the traditional
bonfire at Goeppinger Field. The
five queen candidates were introduced, the student body cheered our Toreadors on to victory,
and Mo (Morris) Kelley spoke.
The annual homecoming assembly took place in the high school auditorium where the
entire student body watched Christy Munson crowned 1966 Homecoming Queen. Stanley
Redeker was the speaker, and Paul Clark was the master of ceremonies.
The homecoming tea, put on by the homemaking department, took place following the
assembly. The faculty was invited as well as alumni, parents of the candidates, and past
queens.
The Toreadors beat Ft. Dodge, St. Edmonds, 49-7 to make this homecoming even better.
The homecoming dance, following the game, topped off the festivities with Morrie Powers
and band playing. Upon receiving the most votes in the most beautiful legs contest, "Topper”
Lyness was recognized during intermission for having the most beautiful legs on the foot-

Arvid K. Stock
Boone Junior-Senior High School
621 Crawford Street

Dear Mr. Stock:
You certainly may have my permission to
use any of the Peanuts characters you wish
in your forthcoming yearbook.
I am flattered that you should wish to do
so.
Kindest regards.
"Would You Believe . .
the theme of this yearbook is American heritage? Some things, taken almost
for granted, become a uniquely American part of our heritage. They tell more
about us than public buildings, government documents, or picture galleries of
noble Americans. They tell what we were like, what we thought, and how we
re-acted to our society. They are the comic strips.
One generation had Krazy Kat and the Katzenjammer Kids; another,
Buck Rogers; a third, Superman. Today "Peanuts” is probably most typical
and will be best remembered by the seniors.
Seniors will also recognize the catch-phrase at the top of this page —a
running gag-line from a popular television comedian. It, too, will go down in
history with "23 skiddoo”, "Oh, you kid!”, and the classic insult, "Your mother
wears combat boots.”
1967 was the year of the mini-skirt, the Combo, go-go, and the teeny-
bopper. As Charlie Brown would say, "Bleah.”
The editors sincerely thank Charles M. Schulz for permission to borrow
from "Peanuts.”
Our wish for the ’67 Seniors: May your kite never land in Snoopy’s dish,
and may you have a dog house of your own to lie on some day.
