'We are concluding our second year at East High
School, and looking back, we can clearly see the
progress that we have made since that first day of
school in September of 1963. We are now a smoothly
functioning unit in the Corning City School District;
our unity has come about through the inspiration
provided by an educator of the highest standing who
has employed his valuable experience in instilling
in us an appreciation for worthy traditions, high
educational goals, and above all for loyalty and honor
to our school and our community. He has given of
himself tirelessly and unselfishly in our behalf.
In appreciation we dedicate this 1965 Logos
to you, Mr. Miller.

To East High School Students:
A year ago you decided to name your yearbook Logos
and, in so doing, set for yourselves a most challenging
objective. The quest for excellence is at once frustrating
and stimulating, for no sooner is one peak attained than
another and higher one beckons. Yet those who would
aspire to excellence must also face the most difficult
challenge of all-the retention of perspective. Whether it
be in athletics or in scholarship, each person must be able
to perceive, clearly and with humility, those relationships
which exist between him and his fellows if he is to achieve
true excellence.
From my observations, you have given every evidence
of meeting these challenges well and with good spirit.
Please continue, for you cannot be less than worthy of
your objective.
Sincerely,
Richard J. McDonald

MRS. HELEN OLIVER
Secretary
These faces are familiar to all who enter the main office at
East High School. Mr. Miller, Mr. Burmeister and the secretaries
are always ready to answer our questions and to help us solve our
problems.
We are particularly happy to have Mr. Burmeister with us this
year. His candid comments on the P.A., his friendly presence in the
halls, and his whole-hearted participation in school activities are
part of East High life.

Being elected a member of East High’s Student Council is
an honor, but an honor that brings with it a great deal of work.
The Student Council has done many things this year to improve our
school government. A major production was the completion and
distribution of the Student Council Handbook. The maroon and
white covered book was issued to each Student Association member.
Several dances were sponsored by the group including the
first fall dance and a Christmas hop.
The Student Council of both East and West High Schools
worked on a code of conduct for school dances. This code consists
of eight parts, and failure to comply with it can mean the loss of a
student's association card.
The Christmas clothing, food and toy drive was most success-
ful and these articles were distributed to East High families, the
Salvation Army and to migrants in the area. Extra Christmas money
was used to establish a Welfare fund to aid East High students
throughout the year.
By January the Student Council had also raised $225 for
the A.F S. program and $100 for a Senior Scholarship to be awarded
in June. Money was also collected for the John F. Kennedy Memorial
Fund. Again this year East High's Council is a member in good
standing of the National Association of Student Councils.

Advertising Staff learns tactics of salesmanship
Under the leadership of Mr. Kenneth Fielding the Sales and
Advertising Staffs have both done a terrific job. The 35 pages
of ads secured by the Advertising Staff pays a large portion
of the publishing cost of the book. This saving is passed on to
you, the buyer. Over 900 copies for the 1965 Logos were
sold by the Sales Staff. Our yearbook could not be published
without the efforts of these two staffs.

Early this year the Trojan staff began its work, and under
the direction of Mr. O’Brien, the editors and co-editors were
selected for the various departments. These students made
assignments and checked the work of the staffs. Thursday
meetings in Mr. O'Brien’s room enabled the editorial board to
select the most interesting and recent items for publication.
These, along with articles written by the staffs, and advertise-
ments, made up the issues of the paper. Much work, writing,
and a strong editorial policy went into the publication of the
Trojan.

Library Council members strive to serve East High
The fifty members of the Library Council work one
period a week to help Miss Grant take care of the
library. Members learn the skills involved in the opera-
tion of a successful library. Working at the desk in-
cludes carding and stamping books and magazines.
Books must be shelved and kept in proper order on the
shelves. New books must be processed before students
may check them out of the library. Members of the
Council work to help students find reference material.
Of course, the overdue book fines must be written
and distributed. However, being a member of Library
Council is not all work. The members enjoy activities
such as the annual banquet at the end of the school
year to honor the senior members and announce the
officers for the following year.
All the members of the '64-’65 Council will remember
those early morning meetings. It was hard to get to
school early but it was worth the effort to be part of
this service organization.

Congratulations
as you continue a fine
New Tradition.
You, as members of Corning-Painted Post East High Schools' second
graduating class, are pushing upward on the ladder of a new tradition.
Keep the enthusiasm which you have shown in your school years —
use it to push even higher. Without enthusiasm, no one can do his best...
but with it, horizons of the world can be conquered.
As you go forth upon your chosen careers from these Halls of Learn-
ing, do so with honor and aim high in all your endeavors.
Our most sincere good wishes go with you always.
