FOREWORD
Nearly a century ago, the brave, stout hearts of our be
loved South united their forces in battle for their beliefs, convictions, and traditions. They were the men of our own Con
federate Army, the "Rebels."
In memory of those who fought and died for us and for the
South, the students and faculty of L. C. H. S. have taken their
name - the "Rebels."
And proud we are of our name: so proud, in fact, that
THE CORE wishes to emphasize, through a Confederate Army
theme, the "Rebel" name.
With this in mind, the Core proudly presents to the students
and faculty of L. C. H. S. its annual contribution: a record of
the school year's events audits members, the "REBEL ROSTER."

SCHOOL DAY
7
May I take this opportunity to congratulate the students of Louisa County High School who have been affiliated with the school in the year of 1959-1960. It has been a memorable year - one of happy times, sad times, hard work, and pleasant recreation. You have been a most desirable group for your teachers and school administrator to work with; you have accomplished much, and I wish for you the best.
It is my hope that you will each look back upon this, your high school year of 1959 -1960, with fond memories; and remember that if you each do your best, the best will come back to you.

SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS: (Left to right) Shelton Clough, treasurer; Roger Adams, president; Billy Ornduff, vice president; Barbara Walker, secretary. Class Sponsors: (Standing) Mrs. Woodward and Colonel Randolph. (Miss Estes not present).
In September, 1955, 120 frightened but enthusiastic eighth-graders entered the doors of LCHS for the first tame. We did not know what to expect, but we were Certain that great things were in store for us. To guide us through our first high school year, we elected Betty Goodling, president; Roger Adams, vice president; and William Ware, secretary-treasurer of our class. Under the protective wing of Mrs. Layman, we soon gained confidence and ventured out into the life and activities of the school. One of the school's delegates to All State Band was Betty Ingalls. The highlight of our first year at LCHS was our play, THE PEST, at which our band members gave a concert. In June we received our promotion slips, and, though it had been fun, we were glad to have successfully climbed the first rung of the ladder of high school success.
Advised by our guidance counselors, we chose our freshman courses and began them eagerly. Don Malan was elected class president; Roger Adams, vice president, and W. G. Clark, secretary. We continued to participate in school activities, and four of the successful Junior County Government candidates were our fresh man classmates.
Jenny King was chosen to head the class of 1960 during our sophomore year. Other officers were Freddie Ellis and Sally Pendleton. Sally was crowned "Miss LCHS, "and represented the school at the Dogwood Festival.
The big event of our junior year was the prom we 18
gave the seniors; our theme, "Some Enchanted Evening,' was an accurate description of that night. Sandra Peck ham was the second of our classmates to be honored a "Miss Louisa." Class officers were: president, Tommj Hicks; vice president, Patsy Fisher; secretary, Shelbj Halterman; and treasurer, Margie Winston. For out standing school records, seventeen of us were tapped into the National Honor Society.
In September, 1959, we returned to LCHS for our final year. New facilities - a cafeteria, gymnasium, and bandrooms - had been constructed, and were welcome additions in our senior year. Senior class officer: were: Roger Adams, president; Billy Ornduff, vice president; Barbara Walker, secretary; and Shelton Clough, treasurer. On September 26, we were guests of the University of Virginia at the Clemson-UVa. game J Our LCHS football team selected seven Homecoming princesses, from which the student body chose Faye Shealor as queen. Our money-raising projects - selling soap and pennants, and our senior play - were never to-be-forgotten successes; our senior trip and pros were also most memorable events..
Through the years, our activities were many ar.--varied; although we often complained, we enjoyed every minute. We graduated knowing that we wer-' better prepared to face life and to accept and fulfill of responsibilities as citizens because of the five years o hard work, fun, and fellowship that we spent within the
walls of LCHS,

Mr. Russell B. Gill, the first principal of LCHS whose wise leadership brought three high school groups together and bound them into one new, cooperative whole, who established most of the wholesome procedures which have become traditions at LCHS, established a Student Council during the first year of the life of LCHS.
The Student Council, as originally established, functioned through the years as the organ of student expression in the affairs of the school. LCHS has been made a happier community because of the good cooperation among students and between students and faculty which the Student Council has inspired.
In 1953, the Student Council affiliated with the Student Cooperative Association of Virginia. The SCA is a pioneer and a model among State Student Council Associations. Membership in SCA has en abled our Student Council to cooperate with and benefit from the experiences of other schools and has afforded our Student Leaders an opportunity to have fellowship with Student Leaders of other schools.

The LCHS Chapter of the National Honor Society, formed in 1956 to replace the Beta Club, is the most honored organization in the school. Its members are the most outstanding juniors and seniors at LCHS.
Each year new members are tapped into the LCHS Chapter of this nation-wide society at an N.H.S. assembly. They are chosen by the faculty on the basis of (1) Scholarship (A-B average), (2) Leadership, (3) Character, and (4) Service.
The 1959-60 objectives included publishing the school newspaper, giving a scholarship to a deserving NHS senior, recognizing the honor-roll students, and encouraging the four basic N. H.S. qualities in our school.

F. T.A.
The Louisa County High School chapter of the Future Teachers of America is named the Charles Turner Chapter in honor of Dr. Charles Turner, now a professor at Washington and Lee University. Dr. Turner taught here during our school's first year.
The purpose of F. T. A. is to give high school students an opportunity to explore the possibility of teaching as a career.
The future teachers contribute to life at LCHS by serving as teachers when the regular instructors must be absent from classes. Their annual activities include decorating the school's Christmas tree, awarding a scholarship to a deserving senior member, and visiting a good teachers' college.

ALL THE WORK ISN’T JUST ON THE FIELD. . .
1. Under supervision of Coach Hall, the boys set up the bleachers for the first home football game.
2. Cheerleaders must practice before the game in order to give their best performance.
3. Ma Russell must supervise all concession stand work.
4. The cheerleaders form the "unofficial line-up" to give the boys moral support and encourage ment.
5. Several girls render help to
decorate the goal posts, the
standard of victory.
6. Co-Captain Carl Lacy sees the
real action on the field.
7. Coaches Hall and Morris
"sweat it out" behind the lines
with coffee and cigars.
8. Coach Morris leaves the dressing room with a glow of satisfaction, a smile of victory.
