Dear Seniors:
The accomplishments of your class have been numerous during
the school year 1958-59.
We are very fortunate in having one of the outstanding year
books of the nation, giving us in pictures and in words the
history of the past year. The staff and the sponsor of the
Den have every right to be proud of this edition.
The Senior Class has done a splendid job while in South Oak

In his first year at South Oak Cliff, Coach Johnson has won the respect and admiration of all who know him. He
trained our football team into a winning organization, on the field, and off. Many thanks for a job well done.

One of the most exciting games
of the year was . when the Bears
flew past the Wildcats 21-20. The
first touchdown came when David
Collins went 28 yards on a pass
from Dwayne Ballew in the first
quarter. The Wildcats slipped to
an 8-7 lead at the halt. Gary
Reeves scored the second touch-
down on an 8-yard run in the
third quarter. With a minute and
a half to play in the game Haskell
Murehead completed a pass to John
Phillips which led to Reeves’ second
touchdown two plays later. He
blasted over for the 2 winning
points.

Scoring a touchdown in each
period, the heady defensing

turned the trick for the Bears.
With Haskell Murehead pass-

found it hard to stay up with

North Dallas, 28 to 0
South Oak Cliff’s Golden Bears rolled past the North Dallas Bulldogs 28-0. The
Bears took the opening kickoff on their own 47 and scored in P2 plays with Ray Roden
going the last three yards for the touchdown. SOC’s second touchdown came in
the second quarter as Gary’ Reeves scored on a six-yard run to cap a 57-yard march
by the Bears. Calvin Hill recovered a Bulldog fumble on the Bear 29-yard line and
two plays later after a 16-yard gain by Eddie Fletcher, Larry Libby raced over for the
counter. Reeves ran the ball over for two points. SOC’s last touchdown came early in
the fourth quarter as Murehead launched a 2-yard pass to David Collins.
South Oak Cliff's Golden Bears scored their third straight District 6-AAAA
victory in defeating Adamson 30-8. Larry Libby set up the Bears’ first touch-
down as he fielded a punt and raced 41 yards down to the Adamson 6-yard
line. Three plays later Ray Roden scored the first of his two touchdowns on a
2-yard counter. SOC’s second touchdown came as Haskel Murehead connected
with Tommy Dorsett for a 41-yard scoring play. Dorsett caught the ball on the
15 and raced over. After a 61-yard drive Ray Roden scored his second TD by
going 13 yards on a pitchout around right end. Avrett scored the final TD from
the 1-foot line after an Adamson punt was partially blocked.
Adamson’s only touchdown came as linebacker Jimmy Wilson intercepted a
pass on the Adamson 45 and raced 44 yards to the Bear 6-yard line. Three plays

SOC’s Bears clobbered Sunset
everywhere but on the scoreboard to
lose a last-minute heartbreaker and
the south zone championship to the
Bisons. SOC grabbed a 12-0 lead in
the first 14 minutes of the game as
Rhome fumbled twice deep in Bison
territory. The lead was cut to a 12-8
lead on a safety and a 65-yard run-
back by Pierot after a kickoff. Fum-
bles evened up in the third period as
Sunset scored its second TD and a
14-12 lead. Then the Bears stormed
back on sheer power for a 20-14
lead with six and a half minutes to
go. The Bears lost on a fourth down
leaving the rest to Jerry Rhome as
he completed 3 passes for the final
TD. The final score, Sunset 21, SOC

Military
The R.O.T.C. Department gratefully dedicates this portion of the annual to:
MASTER SERGEANT GERALD W. COMER
His devotion to this school and to our RO.T.C. Department has been that of a loyal soldier. He has been an
inspiration to all the cadets in the corps by his military bearing, his friendly attitude, and his helpful manner.
During his four years at this school, the R.O.T.C. Department has won the R. M. S. & T. Trophy three years,
the McCain Trophy two years; our company at Camp Dallas has won the Parade Cup three years in a row.
Sergeant Comer has played a major role in these achievements.
We all appreciate his help and we wish to acknowledge it in this small way.
