FOREWORD
Our hands are one
of the most important
factors in our everyday
lives. Hands clutch
an infant's toy, write
a child's first words,
respond to a youngster's
cry, "Play Ball". They
write a teenager's theme
and provide for an adult's
family.
This alone would
justify THE CORE'S
use of hands as a theme
—but there is more.
The very symbol of
THE CORE contains
clasped hands which
guide our journey
through high school.
Indeed, the very earth
on which we live was
created in God's al-
mighty hand.
The annual staff of
1958-59 invites you to
join us as we relive this,
one of our most pleasant
and remembered years,
through the pages of
THE CORE.

As a service organization, this club was formed to develop and recognize leader-
ship in our school, to develop and encourage the ideal of service as the basis of such
leadership for themselves, their club, and their community, and to foster and promote
projects which serve our school and our community. They strive to develop a spirit of
friendliness, tolerance, and cooperation among the members of the club at school, to
give each member a keener realization of his obligation to his club, his school, and his
community, and to cultivate in each a greater willingness to cooperate for the common
good, and to foster and promote international goodwill, understanding, fellowship, a-
mong young men throughout the world.
All over the United States, Rotary clubs are organizing Wheel Clubs. We, at Louisa,
are proud to have the second such club in Virginia, and we hope the nine members under
the leadership of Mr. Smith will do much for the improvement of our school.

Under the direction of Coaches
Morris and Hall, our Varsity and
junior Varsity basketball teams have
represented LCHS on the courts of
many schools in our district. The boys
have done a splendid job of competing
against more experienced teams, and we
are very proud of their fine spirit and
good sportsmanship. With our gym
nearly completed, we are looking for-

more victories next year.

Highlights of the Class of ’59
September I954--One hundred and fourteen bewildered boys and girls entered the doors of LCHS for the first
time as students.
Our hopes were high; our expectations great. We felt that life was on our doorstep. For our class officers
we elected Buddy Peetz, president; Jackie Ornduff, vice-president; and Deanne Dalian, secretary-treasurer. The
eighth grade play--"Comrades Courageous"-was one of the biggest events of the year.
When we became Freshmen, we were really a part of this wonderful school. As our officers we elected Buddy
Peetz, president; Barbara Cosby, vice-president; Carolyn Spicer, secretary; and Donald MacQueen, treasurer. This
year we were allowed to take part in all club activities. Many of our classmates were playing on the Varsity football,
basketball and softball teams; two of our girls made the cheerleading squad. Donald MacQueen, Garland Kennon
and Jean Satterwhite entered the Latin I Tournament.
As Sophomores we again elected Buddy Peetz as president. Other officers were Mary Frances Jones, vice-pres-
ident; Garland Kennon, secretary; and Donald MacQueen, treasurer. Many of our boys made the Varsity Club, and
one girl became a Junior County Government official.
The fall of 1957 arrived--oh, that long awaited dayl As Juniors we chose to elect Julia Wingfield, president;
Buddy Peetz, vice-president; Carolyn Spicer, secretary; Deanne Daltan, treasurer; and Mr. Johnson, sponsor. This
was quite a busy year for us. Donald MacQueen was elected Vice-president of the SCA. We received our rings just
in time for Christmas. Were we proud of theml The biggest event was the prom we gave those dear Seniors. Our
theme, "In a Southern Paradise", will long be remembered by all of us. Six of our classmates were elected to the
National Honor Society. They were; Betty Andrews, Dorothy Fisher, Jean Satterwhite, Patricia Ware, Garland Ken-
non and Hilda Mae Duerson. Betty Andrews, Jean Satterwhite, Julia Wingfield, Garland Kennon, Paul Davis, and
Meredith Richardson were elected to attend Boys and Girls State at VPI in July. With this our Junior year came to a
close.
At last September 1958 arrived, and we were Seniors. Our SCA was being led by Garland Kennon with Julia
Wingfield, secretary and Donald MacQueen, parliamentarian. To guide us through our last year we elected Jackie
Harlowe, president of our class, with Donald MacQueen vice-president; Betty Andrews, secretary; and Jean Satter-
white, treasurer. Miss Estes, Mrs. Deane and Col. Randolph proved to be very helpful sponsors. In the fall Julia
Wingfield was crowned Homecoming Queen with Deanne Dalton, Mary Frances Jones, Jackie Ornduff, Carolyn Spicer,
Barbara Gilmore and Patricia Ware as princesses. For our Senior play we presented, "There Go The Grooms", which
proved to be a rollicking comedy. Out last trip together was in the form of a moonlight cruise down the Potomac.
June came and graduation. This brought to a close the five wonderful years at LCHS. We are sure that, as
the years pass, our minds will often wander back to those memorable days.
