2
foreword
years ago the class of '56 set forth on a long and hazardous journey, a pilgrimage to distant an enchanting destination-------GRADU ATION. The path we followed through sunshine and shadow often wound its way through footpaths of discouragement, at times over rocks of mis understanding and discord, along broad highways of happiness, and at last to the heights of success from which we view our goal - now very near.
In the pages of this book are recorded the highlights of our journey. Here are the faces of our companions who shared the road with us; here are scenes and milestones, familiar and dear to each one of us, captured in all their youth and freshness, to remind us of the days we treasure. Turn the pages and relive the scenes of our pilgrimage with us.

The S.C. A. sent 13 representatives to the Rappahannock Valley District convention on November 23, at Rappahannock. Anne Wake was the secretary for the meeting. Among the topics discussed were: What are Some Worthy Service Projects for the S.C.A.? How much Authority can the Principal Delegate to his S.C.A. ?
Fifteen dictionaries were bought by the S.C.A. to be used by the students and classes. In order to remind students of proper safety regulations around school, a Traffic Week was sponsored with minor penalties for the offenders. The Student Council also began work on a student handbook.

Achievement, character, leadership-these are the goals of the Beta Club. Each Beta works to attain these goals, not for self-glory, but for the well being and advancement of his school.
On November 16, 1955, an impressive tapping ceremony was held in the auditorium with the student body present. Five new members were tapped and inducted into the club. Membership was based on commendable character, desirable attitudes, and creditable achievement.
With steadfastness of purpose and humility of spirit the Betas lead by serving others whenever the opportunity presents itself. Always they are standing by willingly and cheerfully.
MOTTO: "Let us lead by serving others."

The Monogram Club came into existence in September of 1955. Previously, there was a Varsity Club consisting only of the boys who had won letters for athletic participation. In order to recognize the girls who receive letters, the Varsity Club was absorbed into the Monogram Club. This gave both the girls and the boys an opportunity to take part in the club’s activities.
Our club strives to uphold the ideals of spirit and sportsmanship and protect the reputation of the schools in athletic events. Other functions of this club are to award letters to the athletes, who have earned them, improve existing facilities, and award the outstanding boy and girl athlete in the Senior Class.
The Monogram Club, under the capable guidance of Coach Davies, had a successful year and looks forward to a promising future.

The girls' basketball team, composed of seventeen members, enjoyed a very successful season. As
a result of hard and constant practice, the team completed the season
with a winning record of 8-3.
Mrs. Luttrell, the very capable
coach, spent many hours working
with the team. The results were
noticeable in the standings and the

The basketball team of '55 and '56 started practice this fall with forty enthusiastic boys, trying to make the team. Among those tryouts, there were only two returning lettermen, William Milby and Sam Davis. Amid much excitement and anticipation, the boys practiced hard under the watchful eye of Coach William Davies. Coach, with the assistance of the two returning lettermen put them through rigid training. After careful deliberation, Coach Davies decided upon the following: Mike Ailsworth, James Haynie, Eugene Pierce, Warren Milby, Floyd Taylor, Charles Revere, Emmett Powell, Sam Davis, William Milby, Aubrey Hall, Donnie Rennie, Mercer Major and Thomas Stew«.
With hopeful expectations, we looked forward to a successful basketball. As the season drew to a close with the efforts of much teamwork, we found ourselves in third place. The members of the team wish tb express their thanks to Coach and to those of the student body who have supported the team throughout the year. We are eagerly awaiting next year's basketball season hoping that it will be as successful a year as this one has been.

NEW WAX PROVIDES
AMAZING WEARING QUALITIES ... AND
still beautiful after 24,000 crossings
Here's a floor that's bright and beautiful and still non-slippery after four weeks of heavy traffic that included workmen coming and going during final construction and open house crowds. This heavy traffic during a period when there is bound to be lots of dirt proved the Anti-Slip Cosmolite Wax film was easy to maintain and that its surface did not show scuffs nor mar easily.
New Anti-Slip Cosmolite Wax brings a new measure of safety in the prevention of slippery floors. Cosmolite, a high quality, self-polishing wax made with yellow carnauba, is modified with colloidal silica to assure greater walking safety on any type of floor surface.
Test it on your floors now! A free sample will be sent to you upon request.
