To Mr. Nelson—who has advised us through many difficult situations, who has
always been patient with us, who has encouraged us to do our best in curricular and
extracurricular activities, who has been a true friend to all the students—we dedicate
this annual.

MR. HENRY C. NELSON,
B. A., M. A., Principal
1 am especially pleased to
state that this has been a very
happy year due to the loyalty
and cooperation of the students
and teachers. All have worked
together to make this a school
of which the community can be
proud.
The students and the teachers
work together, cooperatively, in
the big job of education. We
have a student government that
gives the students a responsi-
bility for their activities and be-
havior. The teachers do not
ignore nor cater to the students,
but endeavor to help them by
letting them assume the re-
sponsibility of learning through
class room work and student
activities.
We are known academically,
vocationally, athletically, and
musically throughout the state.
I am sure that we are recog-
nized wherever a Douglas
County High School graduate
resides, because the people of
the community can point him
out as a good citizen and a
loyal American.

school board have done for the students of
Douglas High in the past year. We acknowl-
edge the fact that they have put forth much
time and effort to help shape our school activi-
ties in the best possible manner. In behalf of
all the students we thank them for a job well
done. !»'

This year the junior class succeeded in becoming a well-balanced and efficient member of the
student body, a goal which they have worked for during their first two years at DCHS.
In the fall of ’52 they gave a successful play entitled “Room For One More.” Their dance was
planned and decorated to the theme of the “Black Devil.” They also planned a Junior-Senior Prom
and Banquet which carried out the theme of “Memory Lane.” All these activities showed the effect
of their interest in school life.

The sophomore class, although it was the
smallest class in school, contributed greatly
towards making a successful school year.
They gave the first social activity of the year,
a Dixieland Dance. They participated ac-
tively in all phases of school life and will
continue to do so next year as-uppcr-classmen.

Douglas 21 ... Sparks 13
Douglas used a powerful running game and overpowered the Sparks Railroaders by the score
of 21 to 13. The game was a scoreless tie in the first quarter but the Tigers pulled ahead for a
14 to 6 halftime edge. The third quarter score was 14 to 13 in favor of Douglas. It was a good team
game played by Douglas with Wilcks standing out.
Douglas 14 . . . Carson 18
After leading by a score of 7 to 6 at the end of
the first half, the Tigers couldn’t keep up the pace
and Carson went off to win the game iS to 14. It
was a hard fought battle but Carson pulled off a
couple of long runs that went for scores.
Douglas played their hearts out but the breaks
didn't come when they were needed.
Douglas 39 . . . Manoguc 19
Wanting revenge for the Carson defeat, the
Tigers played inspired ball and completely
swamped the Manogue Miners by the score of
39 to 19. The game was marked by the running
and passing of Gary Lundergreen who passed to
Louie Micheo for three touchdowns and ran for
three more.
Douglas 25 . . . Lovelock 20
In a game played at Lovelock, the Tigers look
an early lead and were never headed. It was a
tough fight to stop a determined Lovelock team
in the last quarter, bui our lead was too great for
them to overcome.
Douglas used both a passing and a running
attack in which the whole team played well.
Martin Johnson was a standout on defense.

Douglas opened its 1952-53 basketball season with
a close game at Susanville, winning the game by a
score of 44-42. . . . The next night the Tigers played
a game with the Alumni. The star-studded alumni
didn’t have enough and the Tigers won by 10
points, 57-47. . ■ . Douglas journeyed into the eastern
part of the state and played three games, the first
night with Carlin and the next two nights with
Elko. Douglas won the game with Carlin 64-57,
and the next night suffered their first loss of the
season by losing to Elko 33-36. The third night get-
ting revenge they beat the Indians by 42-33. . . .
Then the Tigers took a weekend trip into northern
California. They played a good game against
Dunsmuir which they won 54-46. The next night
the team moved on to Redding to play Shasta
Union High. Douglas played a sloppy brand of
ball and lost 33-52. . . . The Tigers then came back
tor a game at home against the Lassen Grizzlys.
It was the second meeting for these two teams.
Douglas, led by Martin Johnson who had 19 points,
outplayed the Susanville team and won by 46-36.
. . . Starting the conference games the Tigers came up against a weak Stewart team. Johnson led the scoring
with 14 as the team won an easy game by the score of
Carson by a score of 46-47. It was a close game all the way
In a thrilling game at Manogue the Tigers were
62-40. . . . The next night a heartbreaker was lost to
but the team couldn’t quite pull it through . . .
behind at one time by 17 points but they came back strong
in the last quarter and won by a score of 61-59.
Martin Johnson was the leading scorer with 22
points. . . . The Tigers then lost a rough game with
Lovelock. The Mustangs came from behind at the
end of the game and won 54-58. .. . Playing a non-
conference game with Truckee, the team won an
easy game by the score of 68-35. Almost everyone
hit the scoring column with Callahan and Johnson
leading with 13 apiece. . . . Douglas played a game
with Reno and, playing way under par, got beat
40-53. Johnson was the leading scorer with 14. . . .
Playing another game with Truckee and using the
second team for the major para of the game, the
Tigers won by a score of 49-36. Micheo led the
scoring with 12.... The team, playing a good game
against the Yerington Lions, won easily by 71-47.
Micheo again was the leading scorer with 21,
followed by Summers with 18... . The Tigers next
took on the Sparks team and won 57-38. The scor-
ing was distributed evenly with Summers having
22, Micheo, Callahan, and Johnson each having 10.
. . . Playing the University Frosh at the University
gym. the Tigers couldn’t get going and lost 36-47.
The Tigers were led by Micheo with 13 and John-
son with 10. . . .
R&slcetkail.
The team was in a slump and couldn’t seem to get
out of it. In the next game against Yerington, the
Tigers had a big lead at one time but the Lions came
back strong. But in an overtime thriller the team lost
55-59... . Douglas played host to Hawthorne and in a
slow game the Tigers came out on top and won 48-45.
Micheo was high man with 16. . . . In a game which
saw the highest individual score in the conference
games the Tigers beat Lovelock to the tune of 59-47.
Stan Summers hit for 35 points to pace the team. . . .
In another scoring spree by Summers, who made 32,
the Tigers beat Fallon by 61-42. It was a good, fast
game but Douglas had too much for the Green Wave
that night. ... In a return game with Manogue, the
Tigers soundly beat them by a score of 67-50. It was
a team game with Summers. Micheo, Callahan, and
Johnson hitting for 26, 13, 12, and to, respectively. . . .
Wanting to avenge the one-point defeat handed to
them earlier in the season, the Tigers took Carson to
camp by downing them 66-56. It was another game
in which the Tigers played a fast, clean game to come
out on top. Summers had 25 points, Micheo 14, and
Johnson 10. . . . In the last conference game of the
season, the Tigers defeated Stewart 61-29. was an
easy game and the reserves played much of the game.
Summers led the scoring with 20, while Micheo had
11.
ZONE TOURNAMENT
In the first game of the tournament, the Tigers
showed what they had by drubbing Yerington 69-54.
It was a game which had too much Summers for the
Lions as he alone made 38 points, followed by Micheo
with 14. . . . The second game of the tournament saw
the Tigers playing Carson and after leading all the
way won by a score of 63-49. Summers was again the
high man with 17, followed by Johnson with 15, and
Micheo with 10. ... In the Championship game the
Tigers came up against the Reno Huskies, and play-
ing the best game of the season, the Tigers completely
outran the Reno team and trounced them by 22 points.
The score was 68-46. The team was all fired up for
this game and played all around good ball. Summers
led the scoring with 28 points followed by Johnson
with 14 and Micheo with 12.
STATE TOURNAMENT
Douglas drew Boulder City for the first game. Both
teams played sluggish ball but the Tigers had too
much height for the southern team and won by 58-56.
Douglas was led by Summers with 21 and Johnson
with 17. . . . In the semi-finals of the tournament the
Tigers played their worst game of the season as they
lost to Fallon 34-57. The team could do nothing right
and could not stop the hustling Fallon quint. Sum-
mers led the scoring with 12 points.
This year's schedule consisted of 30 games, of which the team won 23. It was highlighted by
two long trips at the beginning of the season. One was to the eastern part of the state and the other
to northern California.
Marin Johnson, one of the mainstays of the team, made second team All State.
The team won the Western Zone Championship by defeating Reno and becoming the first team
in the history of the school to accomplish this feat.

largest staff in recent years turned
out to help. Everyone either wrote
stories or handed in snapshots.
The advertising staff worked ener-

second semester to sell enough ads to
finance the annual.
It is the hope of the staff that the
final product is a satisfactory story of
the 1952-53 school term at Douglas

To qualify for Block D society, a boy must earn a varsity letter in one of the three major
sports of football, basketball, or track. This is done by playing in half of the quarters in the team
sports or earning a certain number of points in track. After earning his letter the candidate must
undergo the rigorous initiation, and pledge himself to maintain the high ideals traditionally set
forth by the organization. He must always continue to uphold the standards of sportsmanship,
teamwork, athletic ability and school spirit which arc symbolized by the orange letter on his
sweater.

Early in the fall semester the junior class gave a three-act comedy, “Room l-'or
One More.”
The action of the play took place in the living room of the Pumpkin Shell,
a summer home on the New Jersey coast. The heartwarming problems and comic
situations in which a mother, her own two children, and her three adopted children
found themselves involved, gave the audience a night of delightfid entertainment.
The play was directed by Burton Hendricks.
