SENIOR CLASS HISIOM
Let's turn the pages back to the fall of 1947 when 23 awkward, clumsy students
entered the eighth grade. Much to our regret, we were the first class to catch the
five year system. The "high spot" of that year was a party at Fitzgerald's cabin.
Do you remember how much fun we had? ? ? ? ?
Our Freshmen year began with 21 "Know-it-all" students with Mr. Glenn Suter
as sponsor. "Blondie" was our major production given for the S. C. A. Our school
year ended with a class party.
Our Sophomore year was simply perfect, so we thought. Even though our class
had decreased in number there were many exciting events. Just before the holidays,
we presented a one act play entitled "Christmas on Erie Street". Since there was
no Junior class, we in turn gave the seniors a party at White Oak Cabin. It was a
great success and everyone really enjoyed it. Besides that, we had to bury the
seniors which was a great event. We shall never forget that day! !! ! !
Nineteen happy Juniors returned to King William in September 1950. Mrs. Chenault was our sponsor that year. What every Junior looked forward to especially was
ordering the class rings and selecting the invitations. In order to raise money to help
publish the annual in our Senior year, we sold stationery and pictures. With eager
anticipation, we looked forward to one of the biggest moments of our school life - our
Junior play, "Good-bye Hollywood", which was a great success. The biggest event
of our Junior year was May Day. The King (Jimmy Adams), Queen (Mary Elizabeth
Trice), and Maid of Honor (Molly Gregory) and two attendants were selected from
our class. The last, but not least event of the year was the receiving of our class
rings. We will never forget that moment! ! ! During the summer Mrs. Harris spon-
sored a tour of Williamsburg for our class. The climax of the day was attending
"The Common Glory". We arrived home on the dawning of the next day - exhausted,
but happy!! !
At the beginning of our Senior year we selected class officers and the Bee Hive
staff. As guests of the University of Virginia we journeyed to Charlottesville to see
University beat George Washington in Football. In November received our personal
cards. Our dramatization for the S. C. A. was quite different from former plays
we had given--none of us had any speaking parts. In February the Junior and Senior
classes went to Richmond to see the General Assembly in action. Our class took an
active part in the 250th Anniversary Celebration of King William County which was
celebrated in April. Alta Smart served as Queen of the celebration, Anne Grey
Harris was Maid of Honor and Bobby Fowlkes was King. Our class representatives
on the court were Jackie Whitt and Alfred Phillips. Mrs. Broache, our class mother,
planned a most enjoyable trip to Washington for us in April. Everyone agreed that
it was a most memorable day. Last of all, on May, ninth, the Juniors gave us a de-
lightful party which marked another memorable event in our school days.
Such is the history of our class and with these events to recall, it is easily under-
stood that the entire class of '52 will enjoy happy memories of school days.
