Our Alma Mater
Sing praises to our high school so loyal and true,
We’ll remember the things that you taught us to do.
Pleasant Hill, we’ll remain as a servant to you,
Through your halls of learning, you have led us through.
Alma Mater, we praise and accept what you’ve taught,
You have led us and shown us to do what we ought.
Thy children are many, thy problems are few,
We’ll think of you always and always be true.

Dedication
It is with warm hearts that we dedicate our 1951 Chest
of Treasures to our principal, Mr. George C. Chenault.
We feel that Mr. Chenault is a member of our class
since he entered as a freshman with us and will be gradu-
ating with us.
Our many thanks and thoughts go with our dedication
to our great friend and advisor.

CLASS HISTORY
ONE RAINY DAY in September of ’47, a bewildered group of
inexperienced “brats,” as we were called, entered high
school. We staggered through our first year doing the best
we could in our studies, and as the year drew to a close, we de-
cided to visit the historical establishments of Williamsburg and
Jamestown.
As Sophomores, we felt more at home in high school, because
we had become accustomed to our different life. This was a very
uneventful year because we tried to get out of everything we
could and still get by. We took another interesting trip at the
close of the year; this trip included visits to Stratford Hall and
Westmoreland Park.
Our Junior year was filled with excitement of planning a
trip for the Seniors. We took them to Washington and spent the
day traveling about the city, visiting places of historical interest.
After seeing the important places, we took off to the zoo.
SENIORS—at last—our goal has been reached! During
this year, we have had many reasons to be proud of our class.
Football season saw Robert Lee Massey and Clarence Brooks as
top players on the football field. Basketball season saw Robert
Lee, again, showing his skill as an athlete and was also listed with
the baseball club. The girls were outstanding, too, during these
seasons as: Cheerleaders, Clayton Roane, Betty Rodgers and Shir-
ley Lawson; as basketball players, Clayton Roane and Helen
Bew; as softball players, Hilda Bristow, Mae Bristow and Helen
Bew. Clayton, Helen, Mae and Hilda; as well as Robert Lee and
Clarence, proved themselves to be valuable members of student
athletics.
We are grateful for the parts we played and the friends we
made at our Alma Mater.

Class Prophecy of 1951
The days grow long and the scenes seem
bare
As I rock along in my old rocking chair.
I can’t help but think of school and friends
there,
And wonder what life has brought them to
bear.
I lean back often and dream of their fates,
And, in thinking of them, I forget the
dates.
But 1 remember distinctly in the year, ’63,
I saw Robert Langford sitting under a tree.
He said he teas ploiving, but I knoic it
wasn’t so.
He seemed just as lazy as he was befo’.
In my 70 years, I’ve been many a place,
And I found where Herbert Cox can stay
and hide his face.
He’s still as bashful as before,
’Cause I saw him hiding behind a coal mine
door.
One time my daughter took me to New
York,
And wc strolled around by Central Park.
There I saw Clarence Brooks cleaning the
street
With a gripe every time his brush would
sweep.
I passed on to Fifth Avenue;
I saw a sign and couldn’t believe it was
true.
I looked once and I stared and stared again
For Clayton Roane’s name was there as
owner of the 5 and 10.
I peeked in the window and guess who was
there—
Shirley Lawson, "racked” back in a chair!
She should have been typing, but she was
CHIEF EXEC,
So "racking back” was her actual job—
what more could you expect?
Wc got tickets to see a baseball game,
Many names, I knew, were of great fame.
I looked on the field and had nothing to
say,
For there, I saw Hilda Bristow,
First lady baseball player for the USA!
When all of a sudden, there arose such a
clatter,
I jumped from my scat to see what was the
matter.
There it ivas—it was Betty Rodgers!
She was leading cheers for the Brooklyn
Dodgers.
After the game, I went out on the street
And spied a friend I was anxious to meet;
Ruby Lee Davis was the friend there to
greet,
She’s the great beautician on Wall Street.
I saw a little billboard above a building.
It was a picture of my friend, Herbert
Milby.
He was number one salesman in the land,
And he had been awarded a new sedan.
My daughter suggested that we sec a play,
And Mae Bristow was really good as she
appeared on Broadway.
I was amazed to find her there;
But I knew that she had talent to spare.
Before I left Neiv York, I went to the
Diamond Horseshoe
And saiv no other than Helen Bew,
Dancing her one-two, one-two.
I was so shocked and in UTTER DISGUST,
I ivent out to catch the nearest bus.
The driver was nice, and he wasn’t sassy,
He was my old school bus driver, Robert
Lee Massey!
I got home and was amazed to find,
That my husband had left with my chil-
dren fine.
He left me here in utter despair,
So I sit alone in my old rocking chair.

in the purchasing of eighteen new football uniforms, twelve new basketball uni-

The council not only bought new uniforms but the balls and other equip-
