Playing strong intersectional foes again last fall, the Fayetteville Bulldogs
won five and lost five—not bad against such teams as Subiaco, Tulsa, Will
Rogers, and Springfield, Missouri.
The Dogs opened the season by upsetting Siloam Springs 7—0. Rain, fumbles,
and penalties held the score down.
Springdale also fell before the Bulldog attack 12—6, but Subiaco put a damper
on Fayetteville spirits 13—6.
Harrison was the third victim 13—6. The Bulldogs quicJcly scored two touch-
downs but bogged down after the first quarter.
Will Rogers outscored Fayetteville 40—27 in one of the best games of the
season. Bill Brooks made a brilliant 95 yard kickoff return.
Fayetteville came within inches of the District One AA crown. With the score
12—7 and less than two minutes to play, Van Buren held for downs on the six
inch line.
Playing the best game of the year Fayetteville beat Springfield 13—12, scoring
in the last 10 seconds.
Joplin spoiled a perfect homecoming by scoring the winning margin on a late
fourth-quarter drive. Final score 22—19.
By beating Rogers 32—6, the Bulldogs got the thirty points coach Vandergriff
had been waiting two years for.
Tulsa Daniel Webster was played to a stand still for three quarters but
finally over-powered the Dogs 32—20.

“Block that kick!”
ROW I: Max Powers, Ray Barnes, Bobby Hoskins, Kenneth Cruddup, Loren Phillips.
ROW II: Coach Stokenberry, Bobby Pearson, Bill Parker, Hugh Kincaid, Kenneth Boyer,
Bass Trumbo, Russell McConnell.
With a host of juniors on the squad, Coach Glenn
Stokenberry's Fayetteville Bulldogs hung up an 8—11
record for the 1950—51 basketball season.
Among the eight losses were two point defeats at the
hands of Siloam Springs in two overtimes, Springfield,
twice to Joplin, Missouri defending state champions, and
one point to Van Buren, Arkansas defending state
crown in 1951, by a score of 37—32.
Fayetteville was knocked out of the state play-offs
when Bentonville pulled an upset in the first round of the
district tournament. A free throw in the fading seconds
broke a 54—54 tie. Russell McConnell was named on the
all-district team.
B TEAM: Ronald Morris, Larry Head, Norman Powers, John Miller, Stanley Williams,
Alfred Taylor, Claude Carroll, Alan Adams; absent from the picture is Larry Trammel.

Student Csuncil
The Student Council has a list of activities that floor even the casual observer, in addition to con-
tinuing projects of previous years such as the circus, pie supper, music room, concession stand, coke
machine, Goodfellow baskets, social benefit drive, and school parties, they have started the new
activities of enforcing the school code, supervising a juke box in the gym, and organizing a student
directory. The Council has acted as a service group for the AEA District Meeting, the county teacher’s
meeting, and in conducting ticket sales for various organizations. The Council had a member take
part in a panel discussion at the State Convention and acted as a sponsor in organizing the Northwest
Arkansas District Association.

initiates a new project for the school. During
past years the Society started the Book
Exchange, Student Council, Honors Day, 26

purchase of ten new jackets for the Peppers. Selling season football tickets was
another project of this club. Carrying on the traditions of previous years, they
bought the Queen's and maids’ flowers for both Homecoming and Colors Day.
By sponsoring the annual contest for the best door decorations and by selling
booster buttons, they got FHS in the Colors Day spirit. The 26 Club decorated
the cafeteria and printed the programs for the two sports banquets, football and
basketball. Their last job of the year was the selling of concessions at Play
Day.

F.HS can always be proud of its band.

The chief project of the year was the pancake break-

trip to the Mo-Kan-Ark convention at Fort Smith. Each
year the Key Club does something for the school. A

This is to all of you who helped with our production,
THE AMETHYST. It’s impossible to tell you how much we
appreciate it.
At the time it may have seemed like an awful lot of hard
work but now that it’s over and done with we know you’re
mighty proud of it and glad you had a part.
This letter’s for all of you FHS guys and gals, too. This
record of ’50—'51 was planned with “you” in mind.
We hope you've enjoyed every page.
