Almighty and eternal God, with our whole soul we thank Thee for the great
gift of the Holy Year.
May the Holy Year be for all men a year of purification and sanctification, of
interior life and reparation, the year of the great return and of the great pardon.
May Thy grace enkindle in all men love for the many unfortunate people, whom
poverty and misery reduce to a condition of life unworthy of human beings.
Arouse in the hearts of those who call Thee FATHER a hunger and thirst for
social justice and for fraternal charity in deeds and in truth.
His Excellency
The Most Reverend
George L. Leech, D.D., J.C.D.
Bishop of Harrisburg
Right Reverend Monsignor Paul D. Weaver, V.E
If our yearbook fulfills the expectations of
our parents, friends, and relatives, our deep-
est thanks go to Monsignor Weaver who
has spurred us on to greater endeavors by
his enthusiastic support. He brings a lilt to
all that he touches.

To
"th
young men and women of the Class
of 1950
It gives me pleasure to have the honor and privilege
of addressing my compliments and congratulations to you as you
reach this significant goal in your life*
Chosen by God for the privilege of a Catholic edu-
cation, more shall be expected of you by society in the years
to come, - more judgment, more principle, and more character.
Your diploma is not to be an excuse to indulge in self-
satisfaction; rather it must be a challenge to you to achieve
your fuller mission in life by becoming a hard-working,
honorable, helpful citizen in a democracy which sorely needs
your Christian attitude. Unless you make these attitudes
vibrate through the immediate society in which you live, you
will be hiding your light under a bushel.
That God may walk with you every day as you fulfil
this fuller, richer period of your life, I remain

LEBANON CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Nineteen hundred forty-nine was a year to be remembered in the history of
Lebanon Catholic’s Athletics. Behind Monsignor Weaver and the spirited Athletic
zXssociation, the Lebanon Catholic High School fielded its first football team.
The task of molding this first unit went to Ed Kenefick, youthful head football
coach, formerly of Notre Dame. With the assistance of Ben Wasilcwski, former
Lebanon Valley College stand out, the record books show two losses, four wins,
and a total of one hundred and fortv points scored bv the yearlings.
It was hot starting in August.

Saint Francis ... 34
On a iain-soakcd field, Lebanon Catholic High
School, wrote athletic history in playing their first
football game in the school’s existence.
With the weatherman failing to cooperate, the
Blue and White took the field, received the kick-off,
and in eight plays Tom Eggert thundered 45 yards
into the land of gold and six sensational points.
The small advantage was short-lived, however,
when St. Francis Prep realized that they had trav-
eled to Lebanon to play football. The Hilltoppers
got to the business at hand and sent Fake, Henn’,
Nichols, and Aluxa oyer the last line before little
lom Swoyer got a move on for Lebanon and 55
yards to finish the battle.
Lebanon . . 6 Mt. Carmel . . 20
The sky was bright, the day like July 4th, and the Blue and
White ventured into the Coal country seeking victor}' without
their quarterback, Joe Loehle, who suffered a fractured collar bone
in the St. Francis gathering just ten days before.
The Rams of Mt. Carmel drew two hot hands, and with pre-
cision-like consistency, smashed over two six pointers before the
Kencfickmen readjusted their headgears.
Tire afternoon was beginning to look dark for the fans who
had made the long trek to the Silver Bowl, when Bill Schneider,
running like a butcher’s son, took the pigskin from Charlie Eggert
and played tag with the Ram secondary for 62 yards before being
bumped out on the two. On the next play Tom Eggert cracked
across the coveted line.
Mt. Carmel added one more score to the fracas in the second
half and managed to keep the boys from the Baloney country in
the ice box till the fast whistle echoed finis.
Old Sol was there in all his glory along with some 500 faithful
followers to witness the destruction of the Atoms.
In a bitterly contested first three quarters, the impish Blue
and White discovered that blasting at coal can be rather fatiguing.
Midway in the second stanza, Billy Schneider, who proved
himself a thorn in Shenandoah’s hip pads, intercepted an om
toss and ran it to the Shenandoah z-pyard line. Swo\er, om
Eggert, and Schneider took turns in earning the leather to ic
one, where Tom Eggert bulled across. 0 Donnell made it seven

The ever-present Jim Meluskcy intercepted an Atom aena
in the fourth quarter that provided Schneider with an excuse
electrifying all partisans. Little Billy took a hand off from onse
Lochlc, who was rapidly recovering from the after effects 0
St. Francis partv, and scampered 43 yards for the secon
tally.
A few minutes later on the 19, Lochlc faked
back behind good pass protection, and zipped the pigs
Steve Gristick who stood all alone in the enemy cn zon >

Phillipsburg ... 6
Tom Eggert turns on the speed.
It was a cool, crisp, invigorating night that brought the
Terriers from Phillipsburg. New Jersey, here to Lebanon, only
to be muzzled.
In an action-crammed first half, Lebanon received the kick-off,
and in six plays. Tom Eggert scored the first of his three touch-
downs.
The Jerseymen were not to be outdone, however. Frank Mar-
zuli, a hard-driving fullback, started off tackle, cut back, ran
over two Lebanon defenders, eluded a third and set sail for
60 yards and a score that tied the game.
Tom Eggert got rolling again and quickly acquired two more
notches on his belt by running all over and around the Jersey
defenders.
The final score of the half and of the game was staged when
Joe Loehle elected to pass on third down. Dropping back on his
own 45, Loehle fired away to Steve Gristick, who took the leather
on the 30. and sprinted to pay dirt.
The second half found the Terriers playing top notch defensive
football keeping the Lebanon lads in the dog liouse for the re-
mainder of the evening.

Tom Eggert slips through for 6 points.
Lebanon Catholic 37 Panther Valley 6
Doctor Edward Kenefick, young football practitioner in Leb-
anon, gave his aspiring group of gridiron interns their dressings
prior to their final operation to be performed in the same stadium
just one week later. The doctor was so pleased with the efficiency
of his students, that he allowed all members to participate in the
fun of dissecting the hapless Dragon from the Coal Fields.
Two touchdown passes from Loehle to Jonathan Arnold, who
was playing his first game, and an off tackle smash by Tom
Eggert made it 18-6 at the intermission.
Smashing relentlessly at the visiting Dragons, the water-soaked
Lebanon aggregation paved the way for brothers Tom and
Charlie Eggert and freshman Steve Drahovsky into the land
of contentment.
In spite of the poor playing conditions, caused by a steady
downpour, the Blue and White operated from the T in amaz-
ing efficiency, depriving the luckless men from Panther Valley of
their physical well being to boot.

Pottsville 13
Steve Gristick
The blue-shirted lads of Lebanon, working like beavers, put on a style smacking exhibition of
speed and power in defeating the Coal Men from up Pottsville way, the score reading jj-y at
half time.
After several costlv fumbles in the opening minutes of the contest, the Lebanon yearlings com-
menced to start things rolling by unleashing Bill Schneider on a 95-yard punt return with a
scries of down field blocks, the key one by Lester Mitchell.
These first six points by Schneider provided “Terrible Tom Eggert” with the incentive to
lower the boom in touchdown machine-like fashion. Running like a painter with a turpentine
rag stuck in his hip pocket, the young left halfback turned the battle into a holiday festival by
personally romping for four touchdowns.
Big brother Charlie Eggert finished up the scoring by smashing over the goal line with Tony
1'11 eliminating the last man.
The Pottsville skirmish rang down the curtain on Lebanon Catholic’s first football season in
ven' successful fashion, and bid farewell to eight seniors playing their last high school football
game. The Blue and White will miss Steve Gristick, Charlie Eggert, Jim O'Donnell, Phil Rup-
poncr, Jim Mcluskey, Don Allwein, Jack Weirich, and Ed Klimovskv.
Ill paves the way for C. Eggert.
Tom runs for home.
Doc Loehle gives Schneider support.

The Season
Under the direction of Frank Shuey the 1949-50 bas-
ketball season ended up reading 8 wins against o de-
feats.
Although the record books indicate that the Blue
and White eagers played a shadow under 500 percent.
when considering wins and losses, one lad operated at
close to 1000 percent at all times. He is Steve Gristick,
outstanding senior hoopstcr, who completed his third
year as individual high scorer in the Central Pennsyl-
vania Catholic League. Gristick, a phenomenal foul
shooter and tricky shot in close, amassed a total of 39S
points in the 1949-50 season, 49 of them against Mount
Carmel on March 5.
A constant threat as a deadly shot did not prevent
Gristick from being a team player, as his assists were
timely and frequent. Lebanon Catholic students and
fans will miss the familiar number 12 in the season to
come.
The campaign got under way on December 11, when
the Reading Catholic aggregation eked out a 47-46 win
over Lebanon. The Blue and White, however, wasted
no time in getting on the band wagon by defeating
Mount Carmel 51-26 five days later.
The Shuevmcn kept the ball bouncing by outscoring
Pottsville 63-43, Alumni 42-39 and Pottsville again
34-32. The boys from Lebanon did hit a bad spot and
dropped four in a row to Lancaster, Reading Central,
York, and Reading Catholic.
On January 29, the Blue and White found the range
and downed Harrisburg 54-46 in a bitterly contested
battle, only to lose to Dclone 47-45 four days later. The
Delonc game provided the necessary impetus for the
locals to down York 54-48, and Delone 54-36.
In the last four encounters, the Lcbanonians lost
three to strong Lancaster, Reading Central and I larris-
burg, but beat Mount Carmel, with Gristick personally
accounting for 49 the

The 1949-50 edition of the Lebanon Catholic Junior-
Varsity' basketccrs was capably coached bv Phil Aurentz.
The Jay Vecmcn managed to come out on top in seven
of their sixteen encounters, and at all times exhibited
plenty of zip and aggressiveness.
Along with playing a schedule of their own, the re-
serves battled against the varsity all during the week, gain-
ing the necessary experience that will certainly put them
in good stead for the seasons to come.
Guy I lartman, Bill Schneider, Cyril Deck, and Fred Fox
all show plenty' of promise, and with the necessary groom-
ing will bolster the varsity next winter.

Returning veterans like Steve Gristick, Jim O’Donnell,
Tom Eggert, Tom Swoyer, and Vince Payne are expected
to improve greatly, forming a good nucleus. With a fair
share of the breaks, the Lebanon Catholic swingers are
expected to turn in a representative season.
