DEDICATION
We dedicate this, the 4th volume of The Middlesaxon, to one, who from our experience with her in the classroom, in school activities, in personel contact, has come to represent the dearest meaning S.H.S. has for us. She is associated in our minds with everything that is a part of our school.
It takes not two days in her classroom to observe her pet's likes and dislikes and the qualities of mind and character which make her beloved to us. We know her reaction to belated entrances and her opinion of those who keep jabbering after class is called to order; we watch her ”hug the stove warm" when the discussion is particularly interesting or timely.
We feel that without the influence of her personality our years here would not hold the richness and completeness we have known. We dedicate this volume with deepest respect and admiration to Mrs. J. T. Marston.

CLASS HISTORY
September, four years ago marked an event in the lives of us who are Seniors. We, as inexperienced freshmen entered Saluda High School and were initiated into the swing of things by the vigorous swing of upper classmen’s paddles. Everybody soon knew everyone else so in organizing, we elected Virginia Green president. It was in our freshman year that we were snow-bound and couldn’t get to school for fourteen days.
Sophomores the word made us swell with, importance In this our second year we had begun to feel our responsibility as a part of the school and accordingly entered into school activities. Han nah Bourne was made our president. During that year the death of Hr. Brown, our principal, affected us more than anything else. ”c can never express what the- loss of such a loyal friend meant to us. we were sophomores, our athletes, having found their positions on the teams helped "to bring home the bacon” for Saluda School. To this day we have kept up the good record of winning more games than we have lost.
AS Juniors, Glenn Williams became our president. That session, 1940-41 marked a series of unforgettable events among which was the Junior play, ’’Here Comes Charlie”, directed by Miss Glenn. The" proceeds from the play- gave the Seniors a trip to Washington as a parting gift from the Juniors.
At the head of the list this time with no one to look up to, we as Seniors accepted the challenge of the class of *41 to ’’carry on” and vzith the same president, Glonn Williams, and Mr. Fraley as sponsor, we set about our task. It was thon that we had the opportunity and experience of publishing the ’’Middlcsaxon. ” The Senior play, ’’Cheerio My Deario”, vas a milestone in the direction of June. Then came the Junior-Senior "Shindig”, and last but not least, graduation.
Our Baccalaureate Service was hold in the Saluda Baptist Church with Mr. Gowan, speaking. Commencement exorcises wore hold on the night of June 2, 1942, at which time Dorthy Redd, our .valedictorian, and Roberta ’’Joodward, our salutatorian, gave their addresses and< Senator "/right made a speech. Everyone%.of the Seniors seemed happy to graduate but sorry to leave our good ”ole alma mater”.
