Fifteen schools were represented by a large number of delegates.\u003cbr\u003eAt this meeting the topic “What High\u003cbr\u003eSchools Can Do in American Defense”\u003cbr\u003ewas discussed. North Phoenix High\u003cbr\u003eSchool was chosen as the place of convention next year.\u003cbr\u003eEDWARD “PETE” GORDON\u003cbr\u003ePresident\u003cbr\u003ePEGGY KRUSKE\u003cbr\u003eTreasurer\u003cbr\u003eBUS\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeeting in Yuma, Arizona, over a\u003cbr\u003eyear ago, the statewide convention of\u003cbr\u003estudent officers chose Flagstaff as the\u003cbr\u003ecity in which their next convention\u003cbr\u003ewould be held. Along with this honor,\u003cbr\u003ePete Gordon was elected president of\u003cbr\u003ethe entire Arizona student officers asso-\u003cbr\u003eciation. In fulfilling his duties he went\u003cbr\u003eto Boston, Massachusetts, last summer\u003cbr\u003eUnder the apt leadership of President\u003cbr\u003eEdward “Pete” Gordon the Associated\u003cbr\u003eStudents of Flagstaff High School\u003cbr\u003eforged to a new high in the field of\u003cbr\u003eArizona student governments.\u003cbr\u003eSTUDENT GOVERNMENT\u003cbr\u003ehis\u003cbr\u003ethe\u003cbr\u003eIn March all of the members of the\u003cbr\u003eAssociated Students voted on important\u003cbr\u003eamendments to their constitution. The\u003cbr\u003efirst amendment, which passed with a\u003cbr\u003enice margin, made every student of\u003cbr\u003eFlagstaff High School a member of the\u003cbr\u003eAssociated Students regardless if he\u003cbr\u003epossessed an activity ticket or not.\u003cbr\u003eOther amendments required that the\u003cbr\u003ecandidates for the office of secretary\u003cbr\u003emust have had one year of typewriting.\u003cbr\u003eAlso a similar amendment which did\u003cbr\u003eThis year the student government\u003cbr\u003ehad a meeting room all to their own.\u003cbr\u003eThey had it equipped with a large\u003cbr\u003ecouch, tables, and chairs. Next year\u003cbr\u003ethey hope to augment its furnishings.\u003cbr\u003eThe room was located at the first door\u003cbr\u003eeast of the physics laboratory.\u003cbr\u003enot pass stated that the treasurer of\u003cbr\u003ethe Associated Students would have to\u003cbr\u003ehave one yeai' of bookkeeping to\u003cbr\u003ecredit.\u003cbr\u003eAfter Pearl Harbor, Boyd Welling-\u003cbr\u003eton, vice-president of the Associated\u003cbr\u003eStudents, enlisted in the navy. Bill\u003cbr\u003eCameron, president of the Junior class,\u003cbr\u003ewas elected to fill his place.\u003cbr\u003eThese newly elected officers will\u003cbr\u003ehave a large job to do next year. As\u003cbr\u003enow planned the student government\u003cbr\u003eof 1943 will issue for sale a series of\u003cbr\u003etickets to activities like football games,\u003cbr\u003ebasketball games, plays, dances, etc.\u003cbr\u003eIt has been proposed to discontinue the\u003cbr\u003eactivity card which has been in effect\u003cbr\u003efor the past two years.\u003cbr\u003eIn an impressive ceremony on\u003cbr\u003emorning of Wednesday, May 13,\u003cbr\u003enewly elected officers of the Associated\u003cbr\u003eStudents were installed into their offices\u003cbr\u003efor the next school year by Mr. Ross\u003cbr\u003eB. Speer who administered the oath of\u003cbr\u003eoffice.
