IN MEMORIAM
Mr. Daniel Shutts
Died July 7, 1929
Meredith Bogren
Died October 14, 1929
Each year, for the past several years, there has been published at the high school an annual which has been a decided credit to all who have participated in its preparation. In expressing my greeting to the 1930 annual may I congratulate the staff of workers who have succeeded so well in producing a publication of which we may all be proud.
This annual records the happenings of a busy school career. As a chronicle of the school life of each individual may it ever remind us of tasks well performed and of the necessity for continuous achievement.
Greetings to The Terror Trail! II. M. Corning
It is with especial happiness that I write this, my tenth annual greeting to those who had the fun of producing and those who will have the joy of reading—in picture and word— this story of the year’s doings in C. S. H. S.
Whether as “Lever Annual,” “Round-Up,” or “Terror Trail" —the names under which I have known the book—it is a
welcome yearly visitor. Long after school days are over, this volume will help us live again the happy high school days of 1929-1930.

History of the Class of 1930
The class of 1930 started on its three-year journey of the trail on September 6, 1927. Since the first part of the trail led through the sophomore plains, it was rather uninteresting and uneventful. The class spent most of the time getting acquainted with the traditions of C. S. II. S. and preparing for the ascent of the foothills and peaks which they could see clearly ahead. In so doing they were well represented in the Legislative Council.
The class was ably led through the foothills by Kenneth Gloss, president; Robert Ryan, vice-president; Virginia Vance, secretary; Kenneth Cotter, treasurer; and a council of eleven members. During this year "Square Crooks,” one of the most successful farces ever presented by a junior class in C. S. H. S., was given. It was in this year that junior class members were first admitted to the Lever staff. The juniors were well represented in all organizations, and the year was capped by a junior-senior reception given at the City Auditorium.
As the peaks were beginning to appear above the foothills, the class elected its officers for the following year. They were: Joe Bryant, president; Robert Hibbard, vice-president; Betty Brady, secretary; Don Glidden, treasurer. A Senior Council, composed of representatives of the sponsor groups, was also elected. A little later they departed from the established custom, combined the annual operetta with the senior play, and presented Schubert’s ‘‘Rosa munde,” which proved to be a dramatic, rhythmic, and musical, as well as a financial success. In March old times which were spent on the plains were recalled by the traditional Kid Day. On Pikers’ Day the journey was delayed for a time while the surrounding territory was explored. In May the seniors condescended to turn back on the trail to be entertained by the class of ’31. Just before reaching the pinnacle of the peak, the travelers paused long enough on Class Day to review the past by reading the records of their journey. The journey on the trail was then continued to the height toward which the class had so long been laboring—commencement. The sages upon the heights pro nounced this the most successful caravan that had ever ascended the trail over the plains, through the foothills, and up to the peaks.

JM PRESSION
Holiday!
Kaleidoscope
Of four big tower clocks,
Garish good-times, and books, and gloomy halls,
Noise-rocked basketball courts and sun-mellowed gridirons,
Faces outlined of friends that are friends,
The thrill of work done,------all
In whirling confusion.
Softened colors.
Holiday!
And morning always comes.

SONG OF THIRTY
C. S. II. S. nineteen thirty,
Class of memories—.
—Richard Current.*
Days of work and play and errors,
Friendships not to cease.
Though time scatters wide us Terrors,
Fireside thoughts will always lure—
In glowing glimpses will rejoin us.
Class of thirty shall endure!

Terror Tradition
Kid Day
Everybody dug up a pair of rompers and half hose and came to school smothered in coats to hide the public shame. Bare knees prevailing, the}’ soon shed their coon-skins. Roller skate, scooter, and tricycle accidents were numerous. Barked shins and skinned knees were dragged through the halls for days afterward. Chewing gum and suckers could be heard during the classes, such as they were.
Underclassmen stood by gazing in amazement and with little amusement at their childish superiors. But they would be doing just as badly it they had the chance.
Brown and White Day
Once more the school gathers in the gymnasium on the afternoon of May twenty-third for the awarding of honors, the fourth anniversary of Brown and White Day. Each department in the school recognizes its outstanding students in some way, certificates for scholastic honors, dramatics, and debating, letters for athletics, etc. Work well-done in high school receives its reward on this occasion, the Terrors’ own day. To the two or three seniors selected because of their scholarship, leadership, service, and character the much-coveted Hall of Fame awards are given. Last year one student, Betty Olsen, received the Hall of Fame. The installation of the newly elected S. O. Cabinet also takes place on this day. After the ceremonies of the afternoon a banquet prepared by the Mothers is served in the City Auditorium. A dance in the high school gymnasium brings to a close one of the most important occasions of the year.
Pikers Day
The best tradition in C. S. H. S., according to the graduation class, rolls around in the Spring, and is called Pikers Day. As yet no one knows the date, not even the Seniors. Nevertheless, the traditional pastime will undoubtedly be observed. Those who eat a great deal will sleep in comfort; others desirous of "keeping trim” will hike or do other foolish tilings. Some will be clever and show off their tricks. Then they will return before school is out and rag the underclassmen.
Due to the success of the Senior Play, it should be a great time for all, especially those who have spring fever.

Intersociety Debates
Forensic activities between societies started early in November when Delphian and Alethian met on the question: Resolved, that capital punishment should be abolished. The winning team for Alethian. upholding the negative, was Ed Swenson, John Alexander, and Alfred Ritter. Joe Bennett, Gerald Awes, and Charles Swera debated the affirmative for Delphian.
In the second preliminary debate Senate and Philomathic clashed on the subject of recognizing the Soviet government of Russia, Senate upholding the negative and Philomathic the affirmative. Joe Perkins, Robert Lee, Alfred Grimwood, and John Armstrong, alternate, won the debate for Philomathic from Robert Edwards, Billy Baker, and Richard Current, Senators.
In the championship debate Philomathic defeated Alethian on the question: Resolved, that the cabinet form of government is superior to the presidential form, the cabinet form being that government now enacting in England, and the presidential form being that of the United States. Debaters for
Philomathic, affirmative, were John Armstrong, Robert Lee, Alfred Grimwood, and Joe Perkins, alternate; the Alethians, negative, were Maynard Miller, Alfred lleinicke, John Alexander, and Ed Swenson, alternate. The silver loving cup for intersociety debating for 1930 went to Philomathic.

As the Terror Trail goes to press, twenty-eight selected members of the senior class are forming a chapter of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools. A constitution has been drawn up and submitted to the National Council, and the colors brown, white, and orange chosen to represent the chapter. Membership in the National Honor Society is based upon scholar ship, service, leadership, and character, the members being elected by a faculty committee. The charter members are endeavoring to establish a chapter of this organization to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the develop ment of character in the students of C. Football
The school is proud of the fighting team that coach “Brick" Preston turned out in his first year of coaching here. By fast, shifty playing and good sportsmanship the team upheld all Terror football traditions and captured second place in the South Central League. We were given an awful trouncing by Central, and many are still wondering why we didn’t win the Canon City game. But the "Prestonites" went down fighting, and no apologies are deemed necessary.
During the season quite a few members of the squad suffered from injuries, and Parker in his first play in a league game broke his collar bone. Jerry O’Driscoll was chosen by the Greeley Tribune for a tackle position on the all-state team. Mr. Anderson reports that with the proceeds from this season the school was able to purchase the knock-down bleachers for the gymnasium.
The best school spirit shown in years was displayed this year by the combined boys' and girls’ cheering section. Due credit must be given to Alfred Ritter and Miss Faucette, for it was mainly through their efforts that it was organized.

Basketball
The Terrors certainly lived up to their name
this season. From the very first game it was
realized that they would make a serious bid for
basketball honors. Their close guarding and wonderful passing attack carried the team to first
place in the South Central League. In this league
they suffered but one defeat, and that was administered by the Centennial giants on the Bulldogs’
floor. The Terrors entered the Divisional Tournament heavy favorites, with Centennial close on
their heels. By defeating the Bulldogs in the
finals in a hardfought game, Terrors demonstrated
that they were a threat for State Championship
laurels. Although there were no 4,set-ups,” the
same stalling offense and brilliant guarding which
had stood them in good stead in previous games
enabled the Terrors to reach the finals in the State
Tournament. Here the Terrors met their Water loo in Joes, who seemed to have been reserving their strength to give Terrors their worst defeat of the season.
Coach Erps seemed well pleased that such an inexperienced team should have advanced as far toward the top as it did. This feat, however, only proves that all the players can be stars in good team work, whereas otherwise there would be only a few. The school is proud of a real Terror team.
Mr. Anderson, the business manager, reports that the receipts of this season were not as good as those of last year because of weather conditions.

Tennis
This year, as in previous years, much enthusiasm is being shown in tennis circles. Mr. J. F. “Chuck” Bischof has announced that there will be a South Central meet and a State meet at Boulder. He is also trying to arrange dual meets with Central, Centennial, Canon City, and Salida.
Last fall about twenty-four men turned out for the Elimination tourney, and this spring there were about twelve for the Challenge tourney. As none of the players have been viewed in actual contests, little is known concerning this year's prospects, though it is thought that there is some excellent material. The five ranking highest at present are Neal Williams, William Baker, Hugh Rose, John Armstrong, and John Day, though later in the season the standing may change. Last fall William Baker represented the school in the Dr. Flora Trophy tourney. Although he fought gallantly, the tournament was won by Harper of East Denver.
In the spring of '29 Terrors were defeated in a dual meet with Central, and, in turn, won a meet with Centennial. Murray and Cummings were defeated in the State meet which was won by Pat Leehan of Greeley. In the South Central meet, in which Central, Centennial, and Canon City took part, Terrors won first place.
Those who were awarded letters last spring were Hollis Lynch, Noel Cummings, Hartley Murray, John Armstrong, Morris Slosky, and Garnet Monck.
Track
Although only about twenty men have been working throughout the winter, this track season promises to be as interesting and fruitful as any meet in the past. This year there will be a Boulder Relay Meet April twenty-eighth and a State Meet at Boulder on May second. Coach Preston is making arrangements for a dual meet, but nothing definite has yet been decided. There may also be a South Central Meet at Pueblo.
In order to arouse interest in track, Coach Preston is planning a Junior Senior class meet for some time early in April. This meet will also be in the nature of a tryout for the regular track team. As he has issued an official call for track men and spring weather is evident, track work will probably be in the lime-light for the next few weeks.
Last spring Terrors won a dual meet with Centennial and lost another with Central. In the South Central meet Terrors took second place. At the State meet Terrors earned only one point to make it one of the seventeen teams who placed out of an entry list of sixty-four. *1 he Distinctive Perform ance Award of Colorado University was given to Briggs, pole vault; Cotter, broad jump; Pinson, half mile; and Smith, shot put. This honor is given only to those breaking certain set marks, and the school is proud of them.
Letters last spring were awarded to Kenneth Cotter, Floyd Smith, Ed Coe, Royal Briggs, Richard Dixon, Arthur Vandenburg. and Harold Muhlen burg.Mirror
